Damian celebrates National Carers Week 2016
The Nationals Member for Murray, Damian Drum today encouraged members of the community to join him in recognising and celebrating National Carers Week.
Australia's 2.8 million unpaid carers spend an incredible 36 million hours every week providing care and support to family members or friends with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, or who are frail aged.
Mr Drum said Australia counts on carers every day and we want to show them just how much they count.
“Carers come from all walks of life, cultures and religions and they provide care for a variety of reasons,” Mr Drum said.
Over the course of a year, these carers' efforts have been valued at $60.3 billion.
“Some are only children, while others are nearing 90. They might be spouses, parents, sons or daughters, siblings, friends, nieces or nephews or neighbours.
“And the very real fact is, anyone at any time can become a carer.
“You can join me in celebrating Carers Week by visiting the National Carers Week website (carersweek.com.au).
"There you will find information about carers, local events and how you can participate via social media.
"More importantly you can thank carers on the Thank You Wall and help increase the Thank You meter so they can see how much they count.
"Let's make National Carers Week 2016 a week to remember,” Mr Drum said.
