DRUM HITS OUT AT WEAK LABOR ANNOUNCEMENT
Member for Murray Damian Drum MP has hit out at the Victorian state government’s recent so-called initiative on Shepparton passenger rail services.
“Without doubt, Shepparton passenger rail continues to be the most ignored and abandoned rail service of anywhere in Victoria.
“There is a population catchment of around 100,000 people who would use the passenger service to Melbourne if it was more user friendly, more frequent and more reliable,” Mr Drum said.
Mr Drum said, “Those 100,000 people will be rightfully disappointed at today’s non-announcement when there has been more than $400 million allocated to the La Trobe Valley rail, $91 million for the Bendigo-Echuca line and many millions more spent on the Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong services. Once again the people of Shepparton have again received nothing more than the crumbs off the table.”
“The $43 million announced by the State Labor Government last year has simply been re-announced this year with the timeline for stabling yards and a passing loop being brought forward by 12 months.
“It is a pathetic excuse for action. In fact it is total inaction. The people of Shepparton need and deserve nothing short of VLocity standard trains running of speeds in excess of 120km/h between Seymour and Shepparton with 8 to 10 services a day, every day.
“It’s time that Jacinta Allan and her Labor Party must start taking Shepparton and the people of the Goulburn valley seriously and cannot continue to abandon this part of Victoria in the way they have whilst in government 14 of the last 18 years,” said Mr Drum.
