Give credit where it’s due, Drum tells Allan
Tuesday, March 22, 2016
Bendigo Labor MPs were hypocritically trying to take all the credit for major Bendigo projects funded by Coalition Governments, Nationals MP Damian Drum said in State Parliament today.
In a heated address to Parliament, Mr Drum said he had last Friday attended the ceremonial first sod-turning at the $15 million Bendigo Airport project , which had been funded by the City of Greater Bendigo and Coalition Governments at both state and federal level.
He said the Bendigo East Labor MP Jacinta Allan had spoken at the event, but made no mention in her comments at the ceremony of the Coalition’s major role.
“I know it’s all taxpayers’ money, but I look around Bendigo at the projects which are taking place because of Coalition backing and here’s Labor trying always to take the credit.”
These included the $28 million Ulumbarra Theatre, and the $630 million new Bendigo Hospital.
Mr Drum said if Labor had had its way, the Bendigo hospital project would have been a cut-price model which forced some of the region’s most ill patients to be treated across two separate sites.
He said Ms Allan had been the project’s most constant critic, but now had undergone the “greatest turnaround ever” and was busily trying to steal all the limelight and take part in endless photo opportunities.
