INVESTING IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY SPORTING ORGANISATIONS
The Liberal National Government will invest more than $180,000 in upgrading and improving the sporting facilities for three community organisations to help increase sporting participation and get the local community more active, more often.
The investment is part of the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant Program that is investing $28 million in 223 projects across Australia that will help drive increased participation in sports and physical activity.
Federal Member for Murray, the Hon Damian Drum MP said that sport is an integral part of our regional communities and no matter a person’s age or their gender, sport and exercise will always have a positive effect on all of us.
“It is a key priority of our government to promote the social and health benefits of physical activity and sport. These investments are about providing the best facilities for people who currently use them and to attract new members or participants to an organisation.
“The Goulburn Valley Hockey Association will receive $38,500 to upgrade their hockey pitch lights. The Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club has been granted $77,241 to upgrade the entrance to their club and also make improvements to their facilities.
“The Euroa Golf Club will benefit from $66,000 to help grow the participation of golf in the community and upgrade their facilities that many community organisations use,” Mr Drum said.
“Sport is a great way to stay active, contribute to your community and make new lifelong friends. Sport can be an outlet and a social opportunity to grow community networks.
The number of applications received nationally – over 2,000 – was far more than anticipated and to meet the obvious interest, the government will allocate an additional $30 million for projects in early 2019 from the existing pool of applications.
“This demand has demonstrated that sporting and community organisations are crying out for help to upgrade their facilities and because of the Liberal National government’s responsible economic management and delivering a budget surplus, we are in the position to increase the investment,” Mr Drum said.
