Labor has no Christmas cheer for Bendigo jobless

Thursday Dec 17, 2015

Bendigo continues to suffer because of the Andrews Labor State Government’s tragic failure to come up with a working jobs plan, Nationals MP for Northern Victoria, Damian Drum said today.

The latest Bureau of Statistics figures reveal the real extent of Labor’s failed jobs strategy.

In Bendigo in November there were more than 5500 officially unemployed – 500 more than when Labor took office one year ago.

And while the November figures eased over October’s shock of almost 7000 jobless, the participation rate  slumped by more than nine per cent.

“In Labor’s first year, the number of people in full time jobs in Bendigo collapsed by 5335.

“People are giving up hope, or trying to make do on poor-paying part-time work,” Mr Drum said.

“Maree Edwards and Jacinta Allan have to get out of their party room bunkers to help Bendigo get back to work."
