Performing arts groups funded to tour Shepparton
Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield, Minister for the Arts and Damian Drum MP, Member for Murray, have announced the Turnbull Government’s support for performing arts organisations through the Playing Australia Regional Performing Arts Touring Fund.
The Nationals Member for Murray, Damian Drum said I am pleased to announce that Regional Arts Victoria and the Tasmanian Theatre Company have received funding to bring their performances to Shepparton next year.
“This funding ensures that members of the Murray community have the chance to introduce their children to great theatre,” Mr Drum said.
“In particular, young audiences will have the opportunity to see Roald Dahl’s The Witches by the Griffin Theatre Company when it comes to Shepparton.
“This latest round of funding also provides opportunities for cultural exchange and community participation through workshops and the involvement of local performers,” Mr Drum said.
Regional Arts Victoria has received $38,875 for their 2017 tour of The Witches by Griffin Theatre, while the Tasmanian Theatre Company has received $98,562 for a 15 week tour of Bakersfield Mist in co-production with Straightjacket Productions.
Minister Fifield said the Turnbull Government will provide almost $1 million through Playing Australia to bring eight performing arts tours to regional and remote Australia.
“Successful projects in this round include theatre, performances for children, comedy, contemporary dance and orchestral music, with performances scheduled for 117 locations,” said Minister Fifield.
Playing Australia supports performing arts to reach regional and remote communities across Australia with funding of more than $6 million a year.
Playing Australia is administered by the Australia Council and provides grants to support the net touring costs associated with a national tour.
