Small Business Minister visits the Murray electorate
Small businesses around the Goulburn Valley have had the opportunity to meet and talk with the Federal Minister for Small and Family Business, Workplace and Deregulation, the Hon Craig Laundy MP.
The Federal Member for Murray, the Hon Damian Drum MP hosted the Minister on Tuesday to discuss first-hand the experiences and challenges small businesses in the bush face each day.
“It is great to have the Minister in the Goulburn Valley today talking to business owners on the ground. I’ve asked the Minister to come to Murray so he can listen to the needs of businesses in our region,” Mr Drum said.
Mick Ciavarella is the Managing Director of Crowe Constructions and has experienced issues with state regulatory red-tape. Today Mick took the opportunity to bring these issues to the Minister’s attention about how the red-tape is affecting the completion of constructions.
“There have been times where we have finished a job but have been unable to complete a handover due to this State Government red-tape. Some clients have had to wait for a substantial amount of time for things such as electricity to be supplied to the site,” Mr Ciavarella said.
“Other businesses in the region are finding it hard to fill job vacancies, particularly agricultural businesses. Holding a round table discussion today with these business owners gave them the opportunity to speak directly to the Minister about their ideas to solve this employee shortage, in addition to other issues affecting small business,” Mr Drum said
“The Minister has taken everyone’s opinions on board and has certainly gained a greater understanding of regional businesses from this his visit.
“Tonight the Minister will be talking with range of other small business owners from our region at a business networking function to finish off his visit,” Mr Drum said.
