Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, is calling on Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews to enact a serious and genuine lockdown around Greater Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.
“For more than a week now Daniel Andrews has put a pathetic and soft checkpoint around Melbourne that has been flouted by anybody who wants to travel into the regions,” Mr Drum said.
“This pathetic checkpoint has resulted in people continually driving into regional Victoria for reasons such as shopping and sightseeing.
“However, if anybody in regional Victoria wishes to travel into New South Wales they are faced with a serious and genuine lockdown at the Victorian border.”
Mr Drum is calling on Premier Andrews to shrink the lockdown that currently exists at the Victorian border to envelop and lockdown Melbourne and Mitchell Shire.
“It’s time for Premier Andrews to protect regional Victoria from the infections that are out of control in Melbourne,” Mr Drum said.
“Telling regional Victorians that they ought to wear a mask is a little insulting when he refuses to put a serious clampdown around Melbourne that regional Victoria deserves.”
