Twelve community groups and organisations in the Nicholls electorate will benefit from a share of $2.7 million from the Federal Government to support the work of their volunteers.
Ahead of International Volunteer Day this Saturday, Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, today announced funding of almost $40,000 that will be shared among a range of local groups and organisations.
Recipients include the Tatura Lawn Tennis Club, Filipino-Australian Friends Association of Northern Victoria, Shepparton United Soccer Club, and Mooroopna Urban Fire Brigade (see below for full list).
“Volunteers are an integral part of our society, especially during difficult times,” Mr Drum said.
“The Goulburn Valley has been significantly impacted by drought and, more recently, COVID-19 – help is still needed by many and the Federal Government recognises this.
“This additional funding will go a long way in helping even more local organisations and their volunteers to continue their important work, through what has been a very tough year.”
The grants awarded are between $1000 and $5000 and will enable local organisations to better support their volunteers through the purchase of small equipment, pay fuel, transport and training costs.
This supplementary grant round comes after 16 community groups and organisations in Nicholls shared in almost $65,000 of funding as part of National Volunteer Week in May.
“On December 5 we mark International Volunteer Day and celebrate the contribution of charity and community groups across Nicholls as they continue to support the vulnerable and strengthen our community,” Mr Drum said.
The 2020/21 Volunteer Grants round is expected to open mid-2021.
