The Murray Electorate

The electorate of Murray is located in northern Victoria.

Covering a vast area, Murray sits between the division of Mallee in the north-west corner, the divisions of Wannon and Bendigo in the south, the divisions of Indi and McEwen in the east and the state border with New South Wales in the north-east.

Murray takes in the local government areas of Campaspe, City of Greater Shepparton, Loddon and Strathbogie and includes the towns of Avenel, Boort, Bridgewater on Loddon, Cobram, Echuca, Euroa, Kyabram, Mooroopna, Murchison, Nagambie, Nathalia, Numurkah, Rochester, Rushworth, Shepparton, Tatura, Violet Town, Wedderburn and Yarrawonga.

Area: 19 500 square kilometres.

Centres: Avenel, Boort, Bridgewater on Loddon, Cobram, Echuca, Euroa, Kyabram, Mooroopna, Murchison, Nagambie, Nathalia, Numurkah, Rochester, Rushworth, Shepparton, Tatura, Violet Town, Wedderburn and Yarrawonga.

Industries: Sheep, wheat, dairy, viticulture and fruit processing industries.

Nicholls

Nicholls as of 2019 Federal Election

As of 13 July 2018, Murray was renamed to Nicholls – the election due to be held in 2019 will be the first election where Nicholls becomes a federal electorate of the Australian Parliament. In recognition of their significant contribution in advocating for Aboriginal rights and welfare, the electoral divison is jointly named in honour of: Sir Douglas Ralph Nicholls MBE(C) OBE(C) KCVO, 1906–88, a Yorta Yorta, Baraparapa, Dja Dja Wurrung, Jupagalk and Wergaia man, and Lady Gladys Nicholls, 1906–81, a Baraparapa and Dja Dja Wurrung woman.
